DOWNTOWN ROCKFORD IL – Hundreds of women from throughout the stateline are gathering on Saturday January 21st, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to peacefully march the streets of Rockford, celebrating equal rights and the diversity of all women in our community.
The march begins at Lucette Salon and Spa (508 East State Street) and will walk just less than a mile to end at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. An ending reception at Emmanuel Episcopal Church (412 Church Street) will host a variety of organizations who work toward social justice and support women’s rights as human rights.
The core purpose of the Women’s March and other Sister Marches across the country is to stand in solidarity with the March on Washington happening the same day. Not only will women attend the Women’s March, but all people, regardless of gender, are encouraged to peacefully march.
The Women’s March Rockford supports the dignity of women’s rights including, but not limited to, fair wages/equal pay, access to healthcare and embracing and uniting the diversity of Rockford. Women’s March Rockford would like to empower one another and give voices to the voiceless.
Women in Rockford are instrumental in bettering our communities within their separate circles, groups, and organizations. This march aims to bring these women and organizations together.
