Tax Day Rally: Represent Rockford Continues Anti-Corruption Push

18Anti-corruption Activists with Represent Rockford will hold a rally as part of Representation Day — a national day of action to mark Tax Day, April 15. The rally will take place at 12:00pm Noon on Wednesday, April 15, at the Wyman Street entrance of Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Rockford.

The event will celebrate Represent Rockford’s recent victories at the ballot. Represent Rockford successfully lead a recent campaign to pass advisory anti-corruption resolutions in DeKalb and Winnebago Counties, each with 87% of the vote.

The event will include remarks from Winnebago County Board Member John Sweeney (R-16), novelist and blogger Heath D. Alberts, and other community members. It is one of 30 Tax Day actions being held by Represent.Us chapters across the country to announce a wave of local anti-corruption initiatives.

Represent Rockford Spokesperson Allen Penticoff issued the following statement:

“The people have made themselves perfectly clear: We’re tired of politicians who represent special interests and lobbyists at the expense of everyday Illinoisans. We’re going to keep organizing to protect our community from the corruption that’s running rampant in Washington DC, and continue to do everything in our power to pressure local, state, and federal leaders to join us in advocating for the reforms outlined in the American Anti-Corruption Act at all levels of government.”

Represent Rockford is a volunteer-led local chapter of Represent.Us, a nonpartisan campaign to pass anti-corruption laws in cities and states across the country. We use public education and grassroots organizing to advocate for an overhaul of American campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics laws.
