Dia De Los Muertos IV Art Gallery
Mexican Holiday interpreted by 30+ artists
Rockford, IL — Mario “Kayo” Martinez of GuerillArt and Hip Hop Congress of Rockford, IL is hosting the 4th installment of Dia De Los Muertos, which is an art gallery exhibit showcasing the celebration of the “Day of the Dead” from artists of diverse cultures and backgrounds on Friday, Nov. 1st, 2013 6pm–11pm at FotoEnvy (317 West Jefferson St., Rockford IL, 61101). The theme of the art exhibit is based around this Mexican holiday that focuses on those who have died, and over 30 artists will be showcasing their interpretation of this holiday through art.
Dia De Los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) is a Mexican holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. A group of diverse artists will showcase their artwork in various types of mediums while presenting their interpretation to the “Day of the Dead” theme. The art exhibit will consist of artists from the Chicago, Madison, and Rockford area whom are respected artist in their many disciplines. The exhibiting artists includes Sara Briseno, Jon Candiotta, Richy Cepeda, Joelene Chinn, Jesus Correa, Dillon Coulahan, Eddie Fajardo, Jaymee Fedor, Katrina Brook Flores, Arturo Frescas, Benjamin Gifford, Joseph Goral, Peter Goral, Lisa Gray, Corey Hagberg, Lamarcus Harvey, Jarrod Hennis, Javier Jimenez, Greg Lang, Ryan Lape, Jeremy Lombardo, Oscar Luna, Mario Kayo Martinez, Rodrigo Martinez, Sarah McNamara, Danika Mollway, Dan Moorman, Dennis Quijano, Brianna Smith, Sarah Stewart, Manny Tang, Jay Turner, Isaac Velasco, Emmanuel White Eagle, and more. There will also be a mural painted by Ryan Lape and others on a wall of FotoEnvy, which will represent Dia De Los Muertos on a large scale.
The art exhibit will present those in attendance with a real-life perspective on the diverse background of the artists and Dia De Los Muertos. There will be music provided by DJ Vic Monsta, DJ Rick Monsta, and live band to enhance the experience for all in attendance. Since the goal of this event is for the artists to share their heritage and background with attendees, the art exhibit is free to the public and we would like everyone to attend and refreshments will be served. Mario Martinez was born in Rockford,IL, in 1986 and is a graduate of The Madison Media Institute for graphic designing in Madison, WI. Martinez has been in several art exhibitions in the Rockford area, and he has an interest in presenting his revolutionary artwork through his own galleries. He is currently the graphic artist of the Hip Hop Congress of Rockford,IL and freelancer for GuerillArt. Martinez is also the founder of Kayo Designs, a graphic design company which later evolved to GuerillArt.
The Hip Hop Congress is a 501 (c) 3 Non Profit Corporation. The Hip Hop Congress provides the Hip Hop Generation and the Post Hip Hop Generation with the tools, resources and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional and national level. Hip Hop Congress is the product of a merger of artists and students, music and community. It achieves this mission in a variety of ways.
