Bookerfest: Funk & Soul Dance Party
Hip Hop would be nothing without Funk & Soul music

On behalf of Hip Hop Congress of Rockford, IL, it is my pleasure to announce the we’ll control the entertainment for the entire day of Bookerfest, which will take place on July 19th, 2013 at Booker Washington Community Center. Funk & Soul Dance Party is our celebration of the Hip Hop culture and music through our appreciation for the music genres that gave birth to it, Funk & Soul.

The event kicks off at 4 PM to 11 PM on Friday, July 19th; with our collective group of DJs playing funk & soul music that will bring you back to the memorable moments in your life and educate the youth on “Old School” music. The collective group of DJs is DJ Vic Monsta of Rockford, Bboy Terrible T of Rockford, and Rockford legend Kerry Atoms, and Rockford legend and native DJ Shad coming all the way up from St. Louis. They will be playing music from the likes of James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, Kool & The Gang, Rick James, Isaac Hayes, Zapp & Roger, War, Ohio Players, Meters, Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, Temptations, Prince, Gap Band, Cameo, Average White Band, Fred Wesley/The JBs, Dyke & The Blazers, Bloodstone, Marvin Gaye, Rufus/Chaka Khan, Blackbyrds, Gil Scott-Heron, B.T. Express, Slave, Tower of Power, Con Funk Shun, Brass Construction, Bar-Kays, Brick, Brothers Johnson, Bootsy Collins/Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Booker T. & The MG’s, Rufus Thomas, Joe Tex, Bill Withers, Jackson 5, and many more! We will also have local performers doing tributes of memorable Hip Hop classics. Local performers will be Ntysing, Will Inspire, Pair-a-dice, Hustle & Culture, Deuce Jibri, Nate Jon$on, more. This day will be hosted by Justin Saichek and NooneyB of Hip Hop Congress of Rockford,IL. There will be food & drinks, merchandise, and much more. We will be showcasing a lot of young talent on this day as we pay homage to Hip Hop and Funk & Soul music.
