A Rockford Tour of Funk & Soul Dance Music

funk&soulA tour of Funk & Soul music is finding its way to our city this month with a big help from the Rockford Hip Hop Congress and local DJs, performers, businesses, and community members who want to reminisce and partake in the music that helped spark the ultimate hip hop movement. We’re talking music from the 1950’s to the 1970’s “to pay homage to all of those great funk and soul hits that helped birth what we know today as “Hip Hop.”

Start the [ENTIRELY FREE TOUR] of Funk and Soul dance music at Vintage@501 on July 11th, then the Rockford Art Deli hosts the dance party on Tuesday, July 16th, with the ultimate climax occurring on July 19th at Bookerfest.

Music from the likes of James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, Kool & The Gang, Rick James, Isaac Hayes, Zapp & Roger, War, Ohio Players, Meters, Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, Temptations, Prince, Gap Band, Cameo, Average White Band, Fred Wesley/The JBs, Dyke & The Blazers, Bloodstone, Marvin Gaye, Rufus/Chaka Khan, Blackbyrds, Gil Scott-Heron, B.T.
