Geopolicing causing a stir in the community and police department: Mayor Morrissey wants police officers to know their neighborhoods more than they do now. A discussion is happening February 28th, at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center from 5:30-6:00. Geopolicing, as well as the 2012-2016 Capital Improvement Plan will be the topics of discussion.
Bill Robertson, former Rockford Fire Chief and alderman, passes away: “Flags at Rockford fire stations, the Public Safety Building, And at City Hall are all at half staff to mourn Bill Robertson’s passing.” From the reactions on Facebook about Mr. Robertson’s death, it seems he had an impact on many local lives. Condolences to his family.
North Main Tavern relocated due to roundabaout: After 80 years in the same location, a new location is still unknown for a community tavern in Rockford. New construction not scheduled until may for a new roundabout is the cause of the relocation.
Aerospace Grant Success: NIU Rockford implementing an engineering internship program, which created jobs right here in Rockford. The hope is that the growth will continue. My Stateline also covers this.
