Rockford Slam Poetry gains momentum: As a witness of last week’s slam poetry, I have to admit I am always more and more impressed with every slam I attend. This one featured a good friend of mine, as well as a few people I had never met, but still left me staggering for more.

Illinois approves gay marriage: On Valentine’s Day, 2013 the Illinois Senate passed a bill stating that same-sex marriage is completely legal.

V-Day brings beginnings and ends: Valentine’s Day sees a local couple married, and a business owner’s florist shop coming to a close due to “being in the way” of the South Main expansion project.


Radio Disney in Rockford on Sunday, February 17th, 2013: Leo Howard from the Disney Channel’s ‘Kickin’ It’ TV show will be in Rockford this Sunday to sign autographs. This is a FREE event sponsored by Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Enjoy Illinois.


Local seniors dominate NIC-10 swimming: Local area seniors from the Rock River Valley competed in the NIC-10 boys swimming meet, Swimmers from Boylan, Hononegah, Auburn, and Harlem all won different races. One Boylan underclassman also won a race.


Construction Heads Up: After years of planning, the Auburn and North Main Street intersection is approaching a total makeover in the coming months, causing many citizens to relocate. Be aware and check out traffic patterns associated with roundabouts.
